Living the Mission

In the following months, God gently transformed their hearts, breaking them piece by piece for those living with disabilities and in deep need. Even with the natural fears that come with such a calling—especially the concern of bringing their six-year-old son, Jeremiah—they felt a deep, unshakable conviction that this was a journey for their entire family. And Jeremiah, with his tender compassion and eagerness to serve, has become every bit the missionary his parents are. His heart for people and his love for helping inspire them daily.

In 2018, the Freys took a bold step of faith. They sold everything and moved to Guatemala. It was a leap, but one made with deep peace—the kind of peace that only comes from walking in obedience to God’s voice. The path hasn’t always been easy, but it has been richly rewarding. Their lives are anchored in trust, obedience, and love—a love for God and for the people He has called them to serve. A line from a beloved hymn has become their daily guide: “Trust and obey, for there’s no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey.”

Elizabeth and Nick are living proof of what happens when ordinary people say yes to an extraordinary God. Their story is one of faith, surrender, and the beautiful transformation that comes through serving others.

"What began as a trip had turned into a calling."

A Calling Begins

Elizabeth and Nicholas Frey’s journey to becoming missionaries in Guatemala began in 2014, when they took part in a one-week mission trip. That experience opened their eyes to a world in need and quietly planted a seed in their hearts. Just a year later, in 2015, Nick was baptized in a hotel pool by Bethel Ministries former director, Chris Mooney—a significant milestone in their spiritual walk and a moment that marked a deepening surrender to God’s call.

By 2016, their hearts had been set ablaze. They couldn’t keep quiet—they wanted to tell everyone what God was doing in Guatemala through Bethel Ministries. What began as a trip had turned into a calling. God was making it clear: they were not only meant to support the mission from afar—they were meant to be a part of it.
